Meet Dr. B’s Team

Carla Mills

Carla Mills has been a practicing clinician for over 30 years. She has shared Dr. Brzezinski’s practice since 2004. Carla’s areas of interest and expertise are risk factor reduction, chronic disease management, preventive health care and lifestyle medicine. She is also a certified diabetic educator (CDE).
Carla began her nursing career as an ER/trauma nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. While at Bellevue she became a certified emergency nurse (CEN).
She entered graduate school to become a nurse practitioner (NP) with the goal of helping patients identify, prevent and/or reverse chronic lifestyle diseases and to better support patients struggling to cope with complex illnesses in a complicated health care system. In 1995 she completed her Master of Science in nursing (MSN) at the University of South Florida and became a licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP-C) board certified in Family Practice.
For 10 years she worked as a registered nurse (RN) in a variety of settings including emergency rooms in both New York and Florida, in critical care (ICUs and recovery rooms), in home health care, and in rehabilitation facilities for people recovering from strokes and spinal cord injuries. It was during these years, caring for the sickest of the sick, that she saw first hand how preventable, chronic lifestyle diseases cause much human suffering and premature death.

Carla is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner,  Certified in Family Practice, Diabetes Education, Emergency Nursing, and Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

As a NP, prior to joining Dr. B in 2004, she worked in various settings including private practice, at Naples Community Hospital in the emergency department and satellite clinics around Collier County, in urgent care centers and for three years she medically managed inpatients being treated for substance abuse, eating disorders and mental health problems at the Willough at Naples.
Carla spent 10 years writing a book called A Nurse Practitioner’s Guide to Smart Health Choices, which was published in 2007. She wrote it specifically to help non-medical readers manage their own health and medical care better. It has won numerous awards both as a health book and as a medical reference.

Carla believes that the very best health care occurs before there is illness and that the very best care of all is self-care.
