Naples Physician Explains How the O-Shot® Helps Put the Oomph in Orgasms and Improves Vaginal Health

If any of your friends reference a simple injection women take to improve their sex lives and vaginal health, they’re probably talking about the O-Shot®. That big “O” stands for “orgasm,” and the shot is helping many women achieve more of them, as evidenced by a noticeable increase in interest in the procedure.

Internal medicine specialist Dr. Diane Brzezinski has experienced this first-hand from her Naples, Florida-area patients, many of whom ask her, “what is this orgasm shot I’ve been hearing about” and “will it work for me?” While Dr. B prefaces her response by noting that results may vary by patient, evidence suggests that this simple injection can significantly boost female sexual sensation and rejuvenate overall vaginal health. Dr. B will then describe how the procedure works and provide other relevant information that helps her patients determine whether the O-Shot® is right for them. Read on to get the answers to your questions about this revolutionary treatment to address vaginal and sexual health concerns.

What Exactly is the O-Shot®?

The O-Shot® is an injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) isolated from the patient’s own blood. With widespread adoption in the medical field in recent years, researchers have identified more than 30 different cell-regenerating growth factors that help PRP treatment heal injuries and enhance recovery from surgery.

The PRP in the O-Shot® helps stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, nerves, collagen, and elastin at the injection site area. This helps restore the vaginal health of aging women whose vaginal tissues are thinning, losing elasticity, and the ability to produce lubrication naturally. In turn, this rejuvenation of vaginal tissues enhances sexual health by making the area more sensitive and responsive to sexual stimuli. Women who have received the O-Shot® report a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Increased ability to achieve vaginal orgasm
  • Stronger and more frequent orgasms
  • Enhanced vaginal and clitoral sensitivity
  • Improved vaginal lubrication
  • Increased ability to become aroused
  • Decreases in urinary incontinence incidents
  • Vulva skin enhancement
  • Decreases in painful intercourse
  • Declines in lichen sclerosis and lichen planus symptoms

How is the O-Shot® Injection Delivered?

Performed as an outpatient procedure, the O-Shot® causes minimal pain and requires no downtime. The procedure begins with applying a topical anesthetic cream to numb your labia, clitoris, and vaginal g-spot area. Meanwhile, blood is drawn from your arm and processed in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the plasma. The PRP is then carefully injected into the numbed areas, after which you can leave the office and resume normal daily activities, including sex if desired. While no downtime is needed, you may feel a sense of fullness in the vaginal area for a day or two. Some women also report noticeable swelling and an altered urinary stream, though these also subside within a couple of days.

When Do O-Shot® Results Become Noticeable?

Most women experience improvements in their vaginal and sexual health within four days to a week, though some women report enhancements in their sexual arousal and sensitivity within a day. Because new tissues continue to grow in the subsequent months, women tend to report the most significant vaginal and sexual health enhancements after three months. O-Shot® benefits can last anywhere from a year to four years, though patients can help maintain them by scheduling another treatment when noticeable effects start to wane.

Does the O-Shot® Have Any Side Effects?

The O-Shot® is not a drug and carries no associated side effects. The O-Shot® procedure itself has not led to any reports of long-term complications. Only two women have reported O-Shot® side effects in clinical studies, with both experiencing incidents of:

  • Continuous sexual arousal
  • Ejaculatory orgasm
  • Urination-based sexual arousal
  • Spontaneous orgasm

PRP used for other procedures has caused some reported side effects that could suggest that the O-Shot® has a similar risk profile. These side effects include:

  • Injection site bruising, swelling, and soreness
  • Injections site numbing
  • Scar tissue formation
  • Allergic reaction
  • Dermatitis
  • Infection

Am I a Good Candidate for the O-Shot®?

You may be a good candidate for the O-Shot® if you feel that your vaginal or sexual health is getting compromised by age-related declines in estrogen. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you should discuss the potential benefits of the O-Shot® with your physician:

  • Declines in sexual desire and/or difficulty getting aroused
  • Persistent vaginal dryness
  • Trouble achieving orgasm
  • Painful intercourse
  • Urinary incontinence
